What is Unemployment Eligibility?

Answer:
Unemployment eligibility means that you are
able to receive unemployment benefits, because you meet the criteria set by the government.  In the United States, the unemployment program is run both by the federal government and the individual states.  Generally, workers who have been laid off or fired, but were not accused of anything like misconduct or theft are eligible for unemployment benefits.

Unemployment eligibility usually does not extend to those who voluntarily quit or resigned their jobs, stopped showing up for work, or who worked a job for less than a year.  Unemployment eligibility also does not extend to freelance workers or workers who are not US citizens.
