What does an Archaeologist do?

Answer:
If you think you might like to study ancient people
or ancient artifacts, you might want to consider becoming an archaeologist. Archaeologists study objects that are of historical interest to learn more about the people who lived in the past and how they may have used these objects.

Archaeologists need a keen eye as they investigate, analyze, and record artifacts found at dig sites. In analyzing these artifacts, they are able to find out how various items were used in the past during daily activities. Some items that may be of interest to archaeologists include ornaments, tools, and weapons.

Professional archaeologists are employed by museums, government, universities, and private companies. The minimum education requirement to work as an archaeologist is a bachelor’s degree.

If you’re interested in volunteering for a “dig,” be sure to check out the “Archaeological Fieldwork Opportunities Bulletin.” It is published annually by the Archaeological Institute of America.
