What does an Aircraft Mechanic do?

Answer:
Aircraft mechanics inspect and perform the necessary
maintenance on aircraft engines, accessories, landing gear, pumps, valves and other items. Some aircraft mechanics may work on various types of aircraft such as small airplanes, jets and helicopters.

An “airframe” mechanic is allowed to work on most parts of the aircraft; however, an “airframe” mechanic is not allowed to work on the power plant, propeller or any aircraft instruments.

An “avionic technician” maintains and repairs aircraft navigation systems, radar systems, radio communications and devices that control the flight of an aircraft.

A “powerplant” mechanic works on aircraft engines and performs limited work on the propellers of an aircraft.

An “A&P” mechanic, (combination airframe and powerplant mechanic), works on all parts of an aircraft excluding the instruments.

Aircraft mechanics must perform their duties accurately, safely, and quickly so that the aircraft may be back in use as soon as possible.
