What Does a Supervisor Do?

Answer:
A supervisor's responsibilities can vary widely
depending upon his or her field and employer. Many supervisors oversee the work of the other employees, training them, creating schedules, and writing performance reviews. These supervisors may also perform some of the work or focus on their supervisory roles. Some supervisors have the same job responsibilities as other employees, with the additional responsibility of being the lead person in a team or department, or the liaison with management.

Other supervisors have hiring and firing responsibilities, as well as being able to take disciplinary action against an employee when there is a problem, or making recommendations or decisions about promotions or raises. However, supervisors usually do not have this much responsibility and are often just given the task of communicating the pleasant or unpleasant news from management to the employee. In many companies, a supervisory job can be seen as a step toward management.
