What does a Doctor do?

Answer:
If you love the idea of helping people heal, you might
want to consider becoming a doctor. A general practitioner is a medical doctor that treats many different problems and is usually the first doctor you might see when you get sick.

A doctor must be able to apply his medical knowledge to properly diagnose a patient's ailment.  He may prescribe medication for a patient’s treatment, or he may provide healthier lifestyle recommendations. If a patient’s health concerns are beyond a doctor’s scope of practice, he will refer the patient to a doctor who specializes in a specific area such as a pediatrician, internist, or surgeon.

The education to become a doctor can require several years of schooling and be expensive. The ability to excel in subjects such as biology, physics, math, and chemistry are beneficial. Doctors must also pass a medical school entrance test to be accepted into medical school.
