What does a Dental Hygienist do?

Answer:
Dental Hygienist have a completely different
role than a Dental Assistant.  Though Hygienists regularly interact with Dentists they aren't usually associated with the operational end of dentistry.  Dental Hygienists clean and survey teeth and gums.

I'm sure you have bi-yearly appointments at your Dentist office for a cleaning.  The cleaning usually involves scraping or removing dental plaque and rinsing with fluoride.  In addition to the physical cleaning of your teeth the Hygienist will survey your teeth and gums.  They're looking for cavities or gum diseases that inturn are relayed to the Dentist during your consultation.

A Hygienist plays a very important role in dental health.  Removing the dental plaque, consulting with the Dentist and educating you on dental health is a very important role.
