What Does a Bartender Do?

Answer:
Bartenders have many responsibilities, including
mixing and serving alcoholic beverages. In addition to the obvious mixing and serving of drinks, bartenders are often responsible for keeping track of the inventory at the bar; keeping track of which brands and types of alcohol are used up and ordering more of it. Sometimes, especially in small bars, bartenders are also in charge of tasks such as stocking napkins and preparing garnishes for drinks. Depending on the bar, bartenders may collect payment for the drinks or keep a running tab or account for patrons of the bar.

A bartender interacts with the customers in a unique way, leading to the popular view that bartenders can act as a type of therapist. Responsible bartenders pay attention to the patrons' level of intoxication, cutting off alcohol when it becomes apparent that the patron has had enough, and sometimes taking the responsibility to call a cab.
