Clients of an occupational therapist include people who have some sort of disabling condition – whether physically, developmentally, mentally, or emotionally.  An occupational therapist helps clients to improving reasoning, motor functioning, and ability to perform their daily tasks.  An OT can also help a client to adjust to a permanent disability or loss of function.


An occupational therapist can assist a client in activities ranging from getting dressed alone to cooking to using special computer-aided adaptive equipment.  He or she may arrange for employment for their clients, or work with clients in a school setting.  Occupational therapists even work with infants for early intervention.  The elderly can also benefit from the services of an occupational therapist, who can teach elderly clients to live more independently.
