The job duties of an electrician can be extremely varied
and are highly intertwined with everyday life.  Electricians can be trained by completing an apprenticeship or going to trade school.  Depending on the region, an electrician may need to obtain additional licensing or certification.  Electricians are trained to be able to work safely with electricity and electrical equipment.


Electricians are responsible for installing, operating, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems, including electronics and electrical distribution systems.  Electricians install wiring in new buildings and may also install pipes and vents for heating and cooling systems, as well as more complex electrical equipment.  Electricians are also provide repair and maintenance of wiring and electrical appliances, often working as freelancers and traveling to sites which hire them for a job.  Electricians might work in homes or businesses, on ships, in power plants, or anywhere else where electricity is used.
