What are the Job Duties of a Radiologist?

Answer:
A radiologist is someone who is trained in performing and interpreting medical images
such as x-rays, CT scans, MRIs, and ultrasounds.  Radiologists operate or oversee operation of diagnostic equipment such as x-ray machines and MRI scanners.  At times, radiologists oversee barium ingestion for x-rays or other images.  Radiologists interpret the images and discuss the findings with the patient's doctor.

Like many medical personnel, radiologists might specialize.  One example of a specialty within radiology is nuclear medicine, which focuses on radioactive tracers injected into the patient.  Interventional radiology is another specialty which involves procedures like amniocentesis.  Therapeutic radiology is a specialty in which trained radiologists use radioactivity in order to treat diseases such as cancer.
