What are the Job Duties of a Nurse?

Answer:
There are various types of nurses, but they are all
an important part of a medical team.  Nurses often perform more patient care tasks than any other medical staff members.  A nurse carries out the instructions of doctors, dispenses medication, starts IVs, takes vital signs, operates some medical equipment, and directly cares for patients.  Nurses do not generally diagnose conditions, but may report patient symptoms or changes in patient conditions to doctors.

Nurses may also have some administrative duties, especially in a hospital setting.  A nurse might oversee other nurses in a ward or a department.  Nurses in a managerial or supervisory role may schedule nursing shifts or conduct performance reviews.  In other settings, it is possible for a nurse to have very different responsibilities.  For example, school nurses often take care of superficial wounds, conduct vision and hearing examinations, and educate teachers on health conditions.  A public health nurse might specialize in education of the public regarding certain diseases and their prevention.
