A home inspector is responsible for making sure that homes abides by and with local building codes. 
The job duties of a home inspector are such that a home inspector must be familiar with building codes and ordinances in all areas of a home, including the heating, coding, electrical, and plumbing systems.  Home inspectors have to certify that all of these aspects of a home are safe and in good condition.

Other job duties of home inspectors include conducting real estate inspections on homes that are being sold.  These inspections include making sure that the core structure of the property is in good condition, checking gas lines, electrical wiring, plumbing, and fireplaces.  The home inspector also checks the condition of door frames, interior walls, ceilings, and windows.  Outside, the home inspector inspects the roof, gutters, porches, decks, and garage.

I am never able to locate an advertised job for a "home inspector". How do I get started if I don't want to work for myself? Can anyone please advise? Thanks!
