The job duties of a home inspector are such that a home inspector must be familiar with building codes and ordinances in all areas of a home, including the heating, coding, electrical, and plumbing systems.  Home inspectors have to certify that all of these aspects of a home are safe and in good condition.


Other job duties of home inspectors include conducting real estate inspections on homes that are being sold.  These inspections include making sure that the core structure of the property is in good condition, checking gas lines, electrical wiring, plumbing, and fireplaces.  The home inspector also checks the condition of door frames, interior walls, ceilings, and windows.  Outside, the home inspector inspects the roof, gutters, porches, decks, and garage.
