What are the Job Duties of a Detective?

Answer:
Detectives operate as professional investigators in a variety of matters
Some of the job responsibilities of a detective may be to run background checks, provide surveillance, find or search for people who are missing, or look through records which the general public is unable to access.  It is fairly common for detectives to be retired police officers or retired police detectives.

Detectives' job duties are usually not as glamorous as the movies make them out to be!  There are many people who might employ a private detective.  Attorneys might hire a detective to find and interview witnesses, verify details about a case, or check into witnesses' or suspects' alibis.  Insurance companies sometimes hire detectives to look for any evidence of fraud.  Some detectives choose a specialty, for example insurance fraud or surveillance, while others provide general services.  All detectives must be good at maintaining discretion!
