What are some colleges and universities in Colorado which offer programs for Physician’s Assistant?

Other schools in the Denver area which offer programs for Physician’s Assistant include Denver Community College, which focuses on pre-PA Associate’s Degrees,  and Red Rocks Community College (in Lakewood, west of Denver) which offers a more comprehensive program.  In order to become a PA, you typically need two years of specialized schooling.  Most people who pursue this career already have a Bachelor’s Degree.

The typical PA program has some prerequisites, including at least two years of college, classes in biology and chemistry, and sometimes previous experience.   The program itself will include biochemistry, pathology, human anatomy, physiology, microbiology, clinical pharmacology, clinical medicine, geriatric and home healthcare, disease prevention, and medical ethics. 

Students also must take on clinical training with a supervisor, usually in these areas:  primary care medicine, inpatient medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, geriatrics, emergency medicine, psychiatry, and pediatrics.  In Colorado, there are a number of hospitals and clinics which work with the schools, including University of Colorado Hospital, Denver Health Medical Center, and The Children’s Hospital.  Healthcare is the number-one-hiring field across the country right now.
