What personal skills or qualities are needed to become an Ophthalmologist?

Answer:
An Ophthalmologist is a Doctor who specializes
in diagnoses, treatment, care and protection of peoples' eyes, and associated anatomy.  Ophthalmologists perform examinations, treat and monitor diseases, perform surgeries, and prescribe medications.

Ophthalmologists, like all Doctors who practice medical healing, must undergo intense and advanced medical studies and internships.  Since Ophthalmologists concentrate on vision-related diseases and ailments, their studies would include Anatomy, Chemistry, Neurology, Physics, Biology, Microbiology, Surgical Procedures, Anesthesiology, and numerous other similar subject areas.

Ophthalmologists are not the same as
Optometrists, although the two terms are often confused with one another.  Optometrists are doctors who specialize more in the mechanics and methods for correcting peoples' vision through the use of prescription lens eyeglasses or other devices and procedures; although Optometrists may also perform some exams and minor medical treatments and medications.

Many Ophthalmologists go into private practice; whether independently or with a group of eye-care doctors.  Some Ophthalmologists work in hospitals and clinics; and some might work for large corporations which have their own medical departments.

Ophthalmologists must be detail-oriented, well-organized, personable, and patient
; as their work often brings them in close contact with patients, clients and customers.
