What personal skills or qualities are needed to become a Truck Driver?

Answer:
A Truck Driver is one who is engaged in operating
a truck, or perhaps a variety of trucks; often emloyed by trucking and shipping companies, in the delivery of goods and products everywhere.

Well, mostly everywhere, anyway.  In America, it is said that "America's needs move by truck"; and it is likely so in most of the world, since we are still a land-based people.

That said, Truck Drivers are quite an important part of our overall fabric of society and culture, since they are the ones who bring us our food, fuel, fun, and so much else.

The term "Truck Driver" can apply to anyone who operates a truck; but I think it more aptly applies to those truck operators who run the big rigs; the semi-trailers; the tandems; the convoy-breed of Truck Driver.

It is hard to say what a Truck Driver needs to be like; although I dare say one needs to be tough.  That is, they need to be firmly unafraid of the road and all its potential for who-knows-what.

Truck Drivers also need to be constantly alert, as they motor along the highways and byways amid some of the craziest and dim-witted motorists, some doing very dumb things indeed.

Truck Drivers seem to be a generally friendly bunch; so I'm sure that helps in such a position.  In addition, Truck Drivers tend to be quite "cool", if you know what I mean.  They sort of go with the flow; maybe it has some connection to their ability to drive those rigs the way they do.

Federal Laws require all Truck Drivers who operate trucks in excess of 26,000 pounds (GVW) to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), wich carries specific and stringent requirements, including physical examinations every two years, and much more.

Oh, yeah; I think most Truck Drivers like to eat, too!  Heh, I couldn't resist!
