What personal skills or qualities are needed to become a Periodontist?

Answer:
A Periodontist is a Dental Doctor who specializes
in diagnoses, treatment and healing care of the structures in the body which support the teeth; including the gums, jaw bones, cementum (calcified material at the root of teeth), and the periodontal ligaments.

Periodontists usually study typical Dental School topics, and specialize in studies focused on the way the teeth are held in place and supported by the body.  Periodontists, therefore, would need studies in skeletal and tissue specific topics, as well as in cellular structures and neurological arenas.

Periodontists might work for hospitals, clinics, dental practices, and private practice.  Those Periodontists who work in private practices might need to be trained in business operations.

Since Periodontists usually work directly with patients, they should be personable and approachable.  Periodontists also should be detail-oriented and well-organized, since much of their work involves research and evaluation of patients' conditions and test results.
