What personal skills or qualities are needed to become a Meteorologist?

Answer:
A Meteorologist is one who is engaged in the
study and application of Atmospheric Science principles and practices.  The proverbial "weatherman" is usually a Meteorologist; however, not all Meteorologists become weather-reporters.

Most weather-persons on television and radio are known as Operational MeteorologistsPhysical Meteorologists are those who typically work in the research end of Atmospheric Science.  Synoptic Meteorologists are those who design, engineer, and develop weather-forecasting tools and instruments or computer programs and interfaces.  And, there are other Meteorologist titled positions, as well.

Besides radio and television weather reporting, Meteorologists might work for airports, consulting companies, Universities, municipalities, and numerous other venues.

Meteorologists, of course, study the Atmospheric Sciences, which includes education in Earth Science, Environmental Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Geophysics, and similar subject areas.

Meteorologists must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to work with computer programs and equipment, since their work generally includes working with complex equations and formulas and operating sophisticated electronic equipment and devices.
