A Child Care Worker is one who is engaged in

caring for; dressing, feeding, watching, protecting, changing, bathing, napping, and other typical Child Care operations.

In many states in the U.S., Child Care Workers must become registered (some even require Certification) with State authorities, to help ensure safety of both the children and the Child Care Worker.

Child Care Workers can be broken into three categories, as follows:
- Private Household Workers; care for chilren in the children's homes.
- Family Child Care Providers; care for children in the provider's home.
- Child Care Workers; care for children at Child Care Centers.

A Child Care Worker must be patient, tolerant, and understanding of children and their typical behaviors. A Child Care Worker must also be friendly, approachable, non-threatening, and genuine with the children in their charge.
Also, Child Care Workers should be capable of watching and managing multiple, active children simultaneously.
