What is Paid Leave?

Answer:
Paid leave occurs when an employee is away from work but continues to be paid.
There are many common examples of paid leave. The two most common types of paid leave are sick leave and vacation leave. Most salaried employees have a set amount of sick leave that they can take, so that they will not be hurt financially by an illness.
Vacation days are another type of paid leave available to many salaried employees. Employees are usually given a fixed amount of vacation days per year.

Other forms of paid leave include holidays, bereavement time, and family leave. Most of these are much more common in salaried positions than in positions where the workers are paid an hourly wage. Salaried employees usually receive their normal salary even when a holiday reduces the amount of time that they work in a given week or month, with paid leave for holidays. Bereavement leave occurs when a family member has died, and many companies grant different amounts of paid leave depending on how close the relative was to the employee. Maternity leave, and less commonly, paternity leave, is paid leave for women giving birth and for parents to spend time with their newborn.
