What is a Telephone Interview?

Answer:
Telephone interviews are becoming more common
as people apply for jobs outside their immediate area or jobs in which they will telecommute. Instead of requiring that the applicant fly to the job's location, at great expense to the potential applicant, or potential employer, many employers will set up a telephone interview for the first job interview. If the telephone interview is successful, the employer might set up a face-to-face interview with the applicant. Screening applicants with a phone interview allows companies to spend less money on flying applicants out.

Many of the same rules apply to telephone interviews as to in-person interviews. Although the interviewer cannot see you, sitting up straight and focusing on your interview will make you appear more professional. Lying down, eating, or multitasking will definitely be reflected in your voice; it makes a much better impression to be focused only on the interview. Always thank the interviewer for his or her time and send some form of thank you note after the interview.
